The Annonaceae are one of the largest tropical plant families (about 2300 species) with a worldwide distribution. A number of these species is of economic importance (fruits, perfumes and ornamental purposes). This CD-ROM holds a fully up-to-date information system with an overview of all known genera (121) of the Annonaceae and was composed by an international network of specialists. New concise descriptions and additional information are accompanied by detailed line drawings, photos and color slides, and distribution maps. Identification of the genera is facilitated by two types of computer assisted keys: a dichotomous key and an innovative multi-access key. An interactive geographic information system presents distribution data and supports geographic searches and comparisons. A literature database with over 4800 references and a hyperlinked illustrated glossary of terms with more then 300 illustrations are part of the system. This CD-ROM is a taxonomic reference work for researchers of various disciplines such as: plant taxonomists, curators of plant collections, ecologists, foresters, ethnobotanists, pharmacologists, teachers and nature conservators and managers.
