Cultivation of seaweed is gaining interest on a worldwide scale. It is being used as food, fertiliser and resource for chemical constituents. Approximately 500,000 tons are being traded annually with a value of about 1 billion US dollars. In cooperation with ETI, Dr A.T. Critchley of the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and Prof. M. Ohno of the Kochi University in Japan constructed this interactive multimedia information system on the 25-odd species of importance to rearing. This CD-ROM contains a unique compilation of detailed species information, an identification guide, and an overview of rearing methods and problem solving. ETI’s interactive Linnaeus II software warrants ease of use in consulting this unique electronic database. An interactive glossary of terms and an up-to-date literature reference section are included.
