This CD-ROM provides a unique illustrated identification key to all 184 species of Oligochaeta and 24 species of “oligochaetoid” polychaete annelids, recorded from the fresh waters of North-West Europe. The CD-ROM includes short descriptions of species and higher taxa, and over 500 illustrations of some essential characters for the identification of all species. A geographical search can be performed by using the MapIt module. On four different maps you can compare ranges or display the diversity of Oligochaeta species. All text is hyperlinked, synonyms are listed, an illustrated on-line glossary of used terms and all principal literature references are given. By using this CD, the zoologist can identify most of species in temporary or permanent whole mounts, or alive, without any histological preparation. This CD-ROM facilitates monitoring studies, and is a valuable and easy to use standard tool for identifying freshwater Oligochaeta for ecologists, environmentalists and students.
