The CD-ROM also provides information on the summer, winter and year-round distribution in Europe, North Africa, and Asia Minor. Two kinds of distribution maps are included; the maps given with the species descriptions comprise continental Europe up to 30º East, as well as the Mediterranean islands, British Isles, and Iceland. The interactive maps cover Europe up to 45º East, as well as the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, North Africa and Asia Minor. The introduction provides general and specific information on birds. An illustrated hyperlinked glossary explains numerous technical terms and provides information on bird groups. There are many ways to access the information on this CD-ROM. Each section has a Contents icon to open the table of contents, a list of all the pages in the module. The Name Index can be used to jump to the page for a particular species, while the Find function can locate a word or string of characters in any part of the CD-ROM. The information for this programme is based on the most recent standard works, except for the egg drawings that were taken from Baedeker (1863).
