Over 900 photos illustrate the natural world and rich cultures in Africa, Asia and Central and South America. Each image has a caption with summary information. Chapters have a specially designed lay-out and can be studied on screen or printed for hand-outs and reports. The materials are copyright-free, allowing use in class rooms, projects and reports. A search box supports fast searches through texts and images. A comprehensive index provides direct access to the chapters and the image library. This DVD-ROM provides a window on human cultures and the natural world of the tropics. It is a resource for not only schools and libraries, but also every household with an interest in the adaptations of humans to the tropical environment. Dr Wim Krommenhoek (biologist, teacher and experienced traveller) has produced a personal and enriching view on nature and society in the tropics. He is also the author of the CD-ROM “Useful Plants – An Introduction to Economic Botany”, a unique encyclopedia on plants and their uses. Dr Ingrid de Kort, a botanist previously at the National Herbarium of The Netherlands, edited this CD-ROM. She is co-author of the Heukels’ Interactieve Flora DVD-ROM, and editor of The Interactive Flora of the Britsh Isles.
