Linnaeus II 2.6 for Macintosh [9.9 MB]

ETI has updated its Linnaeus II software package for biodiversity documentation and species identification to version 2.6. Compared to Linnaeus II v2.5.1, the new version includes improvements in the import/export of RTF, the porting of multimedia, the find function and the Sort keywords... option in the Literature module.

Compared to v2.2, the completely revised Macintosh edition of Linnaeus II includes the following new features:

  • fully Mac OS X native (version 10.1 or higher), maintaining Classic compatibility (Mac OS 8.6 or higher);
  • redesigned interface;
  • most windows are now resizable and maximizable;
  • text fields can now hold more than 32,000 characters;
  • support for TIFF and JPEG format images;
  • the Lower Taxa module has been integrated in Species module;
  • Taxonomy field in Species and Higher Taxa modules has been renamed to Classification;
  • the Index module now lets you list the epithets of species and synonyms;
  • IdentifyIt has a new Include Unknowns option, which can be toggled on and off to indicate whether you want to take unknown (undefined) characters into account when calculating the match percentages;
  • Find/Replace now allows you to limit your search to one or more fields in a module;
  • a new Verify Multimedia Files option lets you check if all linked multimedia files can be found;
  • the new Port Multimedia Files command lets you generate a folder with cross-platform multimedia and identify files to quickly port your project from Mac to Windows;
  • the Picture Key can more easily be used as a text key (with the occasional picture-based choice) as well.

The download includes a 65-page User Guide (for Linnaeus II 2.5). A sample Linnaeus II 2.5 project can be downloaded separately (see Demos below). A Windows version of Linnaeus II 2.6 is also available. The Linnaeus II Web Publisher module is under development and will be available in a future update.
