Windows FAQ - Die Vögel Europas 2.x

Q: I use Windows XP and experience problems with Die Vögel Europas 2.x.

A: Die Vögel Europas already is an older title, which was intended to be used with Windows 95/98. Although most customers use the CD without any problems, some issues have been reported connected to Windows XP. Unfortunately ETI cannot support Die Vögel Europas on Windows XP.

Q: When I enlarge pictures in Die Vögel Europas, I get a TB50run error and my computer freezes.

A: Replace the file TIFFS.DLL on your computer (ETI\Vögel Europas) with this one to solve the problem: TIFFS.DLL. The problem has been solved in Die Vögel Europas 2.2 and later.

Q: I have installed QuickTime that came with another (ETI) product, but now I don't have sound any more.

A: Some versions of the Die Vögel Europas use QuickTime 2.x. The program was specifically written for this version of QuickTime and will not work with QuickTime 3 or later. The solution is to re-install QuickTime 2 from the CD. QuickTime 2 and any later versions of QuickTime will peacefully coexist on your computer when used with Windows 95/98.

Q: When I start Die Vögel Europas, I can't hear the bird sounds.

A: If you can hear sound when the program starts, but can't hear the sound of the individual birds, try to re-install QuickTime from our CD-ROM. This usually solves the problem.

Q: Installation of QuickTime for Windows causes Active Movie to complain with the following message: ... Some of the files usually associated with ActiveMovie are currently associated with other programs. Because of this, you may be unable to play certain types of multimedia files. Do you want to fix this (by restoring the file types to Active Movie)? ... If I say yes then my ETI CD-ROM does not work properly any more. What should I do?

A: You should reinstall QuickTime for Windows and NOT give permission to Active Movie to alter things on your computer. If this does not help please contact the developers of QuickTime or Active Movie.

Q: I have a problem with Die Vögel Europas 2.0. My system matches the requirements, but it is not able to display the drawings properly. All pictures that should be positioned at the right side of the text are placed out of their box, to the left, thus covering the text and making it impossible to read it.

A: You are probably using large fonts. Birds of Europe 2.x needs small fonts in order to run properly. This is what you have to do if you want to use small fonts:

  1. Open the Display Control Panel
  2. Choose the Settings menu
  3. Change the Font Size from Large Fonts to Small Fonts
  4. Restart your computer

Q: When I take a note in Die Vögel Europas, the next time I open my note my text is gone.

A: This problem can be solved by choosing "normal installation" instead of "minimized installation" when you install the program.
