Linnaeus II hints and tips - General tips
  • Use the font Verdana at text size 8 in all text fields. On the Mac, use Verdana size 11, or Geneva size 9 where space is an issue—particularly in the choice (buttons)/caption fields in the Text Key and Picture Key.

  • Paragraphs can be better visualized with a bold heading.

  • To avoid losing details, it is recommended to save your pictures as large as possible, up to 500 x 400 pixels (so that they will still fit on a screen with a resolution of 640 x 480). Remember though that "overview pictures" in the Species, Text Key, IdentifyIt and the Introduction require a standard size of 241 x 281 pixels!

  • When preparing a Picture Key, you are free to choose the size of the pictures you use. Recommended sizes are:
    - 4 choices per page: 120 x 150 pixels
    - 3 choices per page: 160 x 160 pixels
    - 2 choices per page: 240 x 150 pixels

  • All illustrations have to be saved in RGB-mode (not grayscale!) and preferably in TIFF format. This format is cross-platform and ideal if the intended project is to be released for Windows and Mac. Use the JPEG format if disk space is an issue, but remember that JPEG is not a lossless format—the picture quality will degrade with every consecutive save. The PICT format (standard format in Linnaeus II 2.2 for Mac) is Mac-only and no longer recommended. Recommended fonts for illustrations are Arial 8 (Windows) or Geneva 9 (Mac).
